Arts Centre Melbourne

Cultural Hub of the City

The Victorian Arts Centre was the beginning of the development of what is now the Southbank Precinct. The Southbank precinct lies with the Arts Centre along the banks of the Yarra River and is a popular spot with its shops, restaurants and casual eating areas.

Now known as Arts Centre Melbourne, it comprises Hamer Hall, the State Theatre, the Playhouse, Fairfax Studio and the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. It lies together with the National Gallery of Victoria along the Yarra River across the bridges from Flinders Street Station and Federation Square.

The centre is the home of the Australian Ballet; Opera Australia; the Melbourne Theatre Company, and the Melbourne Symphony
