Starting life supporting dam workers and their families, Eildon, as the gateway to Lake Eildon has become a holiday destination.

Popular recreational activities on Victoria's largest inland lake and on the 500 kilometres of shoreline include water sports, fishing and houseboating, wakeboarding, bushwalking, cycling and more. Eildon is also a popular retirement destination.

Getting there: 138 kilometres north-east of Melbourne on the Goulburn Valley Highway. Follow the Maroondah Highway to Taggerty then take the turn off to Thornton, then the Goulburn Valley Highway.
