Paul Brandon answers the usual questions

AussieCon 3 was Paul Brandon's first signing, he sat in the dealer's room sandwiched between Jack Dann and Sean McMullen. He says, "I keep expecting someone to grab me by the collar as an imposter. I didn't feel like I belonged there.

Has your interaction with fans, for example, at conventions, affected your work?

I'm in a band, and before than in the film industry (as an assistant director) so I'm used to how 'famous' people are treated.

Is there any particular incident (a letter, a meeting, a comment that stands out?

The first person who said they'd actually read the story.

Do you have a favourite author or book (or writer or film or series) that has influenced you or that you return to?

Canadian Charles De Lint. I think it is because he writes the sort of stuff that I really like to read. He has actually become a really good friend. Kipling, Shakespeare.

Who would you most like to be trapped in a lift with?

Shakespeare -- to judge whether he did write the plays. I have to be careful who I would name in case I did get trapped in a lift.

Who would you most DISlike to be trapped in a lift with?

Any politician.

What would you pack for space? (Is there a food, beverage, book, teddy bear, etc that you couldn't do without?)

Music and books. Guitar absolutely. My wife.

What is the most important thing you would like to get/achieve from your work?

To have other people enjoy it. To have other people come and say to me that they actually enjoyed it.

What is the special satisfaction of your work?

Perhaps to have someone enjoy it as much as I enjoyed doing it.
